The purpose of IWNA is to give support to people living independently in our community, who may be socially isolated due to their age, disability or their role as a carer. IWNA has two core functions to assist our clients to continue living in their own homes.
IWNA, a fully incorporated community organisation since 1994, is funded through the Department of Aging, Disability and Home Care under its Home and Community Care (HACC) program. It is managed by a volunteer Management Committee made up of local residents, clients, volunteers and community workers who are elected at the Annual General Meeting. The coordination of the projects is carried out by a small number of paid staff who recruit, train and supervise volunteers. These volunteers are the life blood of IWNA as they dedicate their time to support clients on a one to one basis. Volunteers and clients are encouraged to stend for positions on the Management Committee, as they offer valuable contributions to the running of services.
IWNA provides services in the four local government areas of Ashfield, Burwood, Strathfield and the City of Canada Bay. We aim to offer flexible services that matches peoples needs with available resources.
Some of our services are run by paid staff, as in Special Needs Workers and Team Leaders and others by our team of volunteers.
Small and medium size business plays a major role in contributions to INWA. One such business partner in our community is Fantastic Furniture.
